Final IHSA Solo & Ensemble Contest Information Saturday, March 5 – Alton H.S.
Contest starts at 8:30am. We need all students’ help right after school Friday, March 4 until about 5:00 as well as throughout the day Saturday, starting at 7:30 a.m. Sign up on lists will be posted in the band, orchestra and chorus rooms. Report to the Contest Office (Library) Saturday to sign and get your assignment.
COVID Guidelines
The Alton School District strongly recommends masks, but it is optional.
Family and friends are welcome to watch performances, and are asked to please maintain social distancing to the highest degree possible. You can find the Alton School District guidelines at altonschools.org.
You will not have access to the orchestra room from 8:20 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
You can store your instrument in the dressing room hallway.

Don’t forget to get your scores from me on Friday!
*Are your measures numbered?
Dress appropriately. NO jeans for performances. You may want to bring a change of clothes if you’re helping to work contest. Wear your AHS Music/M100 attire.
Arrive at least 10 minutes before your scheduled time and be ready to perform. Wait for your accompanist at your contest room.
If you have a schedule conflict, allow others in the room to perform before you.
Please pay and thank your accompanist.
Eat a healthy breakfast.
Warm up will be in the gym only. Please do not play in the hallways outside of contest rooms, stairwells or other parts of the building.
No food or drink is allowed in the gym, hallways, or contest rooms.
Everything takes place in the music suite and on the 1st and 2nd floors of our B-building.
First Floor
Gym: Homeroom and Warm-up
All band and piano events.
Second floor
All vocal and string events.
The library is Contest Headquarters.
ABOB is selling donuts, Chick-Fil-A sandwiches, Papa Johns cheese pizza, snacks and drinks in the Commons. Bring money for food.
Please be courteous during contest performances.
Your cell phones should be turned off during your performances.
Audience members may use cell phones or other electronic devices to record performances.
Keep a close watch on all valuables or leave them at home. IHSA and Alton H.S. are not responsible for lost, stolen or damaged items.
IHSA contest ranking is very different from IGSMA. You are NOT to be upset or disappointed if you get a II or III place rating.
I – Superior performance – outstanding in nearly every detail.
II – Excellent performance – minor defects
III – Good performance – lacking finesse and/or interpretation
IV – Fair performance – basic weaknesses
V – Poor performance – unsatisfactory
