COMMITTEE REPORTS
Communications-Mike Haynes noted that he is putting information out on the spring musical. Amy reported that she has opened a Twitter account for ABOB and everyone is invited to join.
Website-Tom Pullen met with the board this evening to demonstrate the newly recreated ABOB.net website. The design is to provide a one-stop site for ABOB families and our students to find any and all information related to ABOB and music events and classes. This will serve all levels – elementary, middle school and high school. The site is almost ready to launch and our teachers will let us know via email when it is ready to go. Many thanks to Tom and others who have put many hours of time and their expertise into this effort.
100 Uniforms-Amy Hillery reported that they have created a fundraising communications plan to address all aspects of the effort. Alyssa Cudney said that she is hoping to have samples of other uniforms in soon as possible to evaluate. The first one she reviewed did not meet her criteria after seeing them on the students on the field. Discussion was also held on ways to promote ABOB and the need for new uniforms, how to set up donor levels and how to keep funds coming in.
Trip Fundraisers-broom sales are finishing up and we may sell push brooms in the fall. May’s fundraiser is T.J.’s Pizza.
Ways & Means-after reviewing Century Resources and Cherrydale the board decided to go with Cherrydale at this time. Because of the unpopularity of this type of fundraiser among some parents, discussion was also held about offering a buy-out option.
TEACHER REPORTS
From Laura Plummer-the pit orchestra is doing very well for the spring musical. Spring orchestra concert is May 15 at 7pm and Maddie Heberling will be performing her Arion solo. Chamber strings have several performances to wrap up the spring and the symphonic orchestra will be participating in the Beatles concert on May 27.
Alyssa Cudney – spring band concert is Thursday, May 8 at 7pm. Grace Hopkins will be performing her Arion solo. Graduation is May 23 and the Marching 100 will be performing as usual in the Memorial Day parade. Slides for next year’s show are being built by Alton Little Theater. Winter Percussion concert is Saturday, May 17 at 7pm.
From Julie Carter and the middle school: 7th/8th grade orchestra received a First Superior at Organization Contest on April 5; 6th Grade Orchestra received a First at the same contest.
May 10 Schumann is going to Six Flags for Music in the Parks competition; May 16 is the Coffee Concert at the high school. This is a change for us this year because we out grew the Annex cafeteria. May 20 Schumann/Jazzios will be touring three different elementary schools for recruitment. May 21 is our Spring Concert where we will be handing out some awards and the students with the highest number of extra practice minutes gets to throw a pie in our faces… so looking forward to that!
From the Middle School Band: happy to announce that the newly formed color guard will be marching with the band at the Memorial Day parade.
New Business: those involved need to set a budget meeting. With the next regularly scheduled meeting falling on Memorial Day, it was decided to move the meeting up one week to May 19, 2014.
Meeting adjourned at 8:27pm.
Respectfully submitted,
Greg Cash, Secretary
