TEACHER REPORTS:
High School Orchestra – Laura Plummer

  • AHS’s spring musical, Little Shop of Horrors, wrapped up over the weekend.  Had 3 in-person performances, April 22-24 with around 75-90 in attendance.  Sunday was a pre-recorded streaming performance.
  • AHS spring orchestra concerts:  Concert Orchestra Monday, May 3 at 7pm and Symphonic Orchestra Tuesday, May 4 at 7pm.  We can have an audience of up to 125 and parents are signed up to attend.

High School Band – Blake Korte

  • They are continuing to get the band room and band storage shed organized.
  • Thursday, May 29 is the M100 kickoff meeting, 6:00 p.m. in the AHS Gym.  They’ll be announcing this year’s show and getting parents and students signed up on Charms.
  • AHS spring band concerts are:  Concert Band Wednesday, May 5 at 7pm, Symphonic Band Thursday, May 6 at 7pm, and Wind Ensemble, Friday, May 7 at 7pm.  Also having parents sign up to attend.
  • They have had guest clinicians come in and work with the students:  Mia Thompson, Edwardsville H.S. alum and recent graduate from Indiana University in clarinet performance and Dr. Rueben Gomez, new band director at SIUE.
  • Tuesday, May 11, 6pm is the Band Awards Night in the AHS gym.
  • Discussion on individually wrapped cookies for the band and orchestra concerts. [Ruth looked into these at Duke Bakery and the cost was just too high.  We instead ordered 12-inch cakes for Ben Duke, orchestra Arion Award soloist, and Fletcher Leonard, band Arion Award soloist.]
  • Blake was able to borrow red plumes for the M100 seniors for senior night from the band in St. Clair, MO.  Thanks to Ruth Waggener for driving over there to pick them up and to return them.  Blake will be ordering red plumes for our future senior night’s.
  • Color auditions started today (April 26.)
  • Blake introduced Julianna Swanson, Assistant Color Guard Director who is in the process of going through all of the color guard flags, poles, uniforms, and other equipment currently in storage.  She will put up for sale what can be sold.  Julianna requested new parade/pre-game uniform for the color guard.  What we have is old and not flattering for several of the body types.  She would like to purchase 8 male tunics @ $65.00 each and 20 female tunics @ $62.00 each for a total of $1,760.00.  Jeanna moved to purchase the new guard uniforms from ABOB’s general budget.  Ruth seconded.  Julianna also asked to purchase new practice silks (flags).  Cindy said they can be purchased from the color guards fundraising budget.

Middle School Orchestra

  • Gearing up for our Spring Concerts! We’ll have 7/8 grade on May 13 at 6:30 and 6th and my after school group (E.C.H.O. Excited to Continue the Harmony Orchestra) on May 18 at 6:30. Looking forward to getting to show off what the kiddos have accomplished.
  • Elementary students are doing well, they are excited about orchestra and the signups for 6th grade are still coming in.
  • We plan to have a summer camp for 5th grade kids who were remote this year and need to get caught up or kids who were unable to sign up this year but still would like to do orchestra. Will keep you posted on that.
