Orchestra Make a Note: January 15

Chamber is meeting today, 3:25-4:15 as well as some contest ensembles.

The kids have pretty much settled on contest solos and ensembles.  Contest fees are due by Wednesday, February 5.  $10.00 for solos.  $15.00 for ensembles.  Let me know if your child needs an accompanist.  There is an additional fee for that. I have posted contest info on the kid’s google classroom and on abob.net:  http://abob.net/orchestra/high-school-orchestra/ihsa-solo-ensemble-contest-info-for-ahs-orchestra/

I have reserved 30 tickets to take the orchestra kids to see John Adams, an awesome living composer, conduct the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra on Friday, March 17.   This is during the school day.  We will leave AHS at 8:15 so we can attend the pre-concert lecture with John Adams.  The cost is $30 which includes the cost of the ticket and the bus. Money is due Friday, February 14.  Cash or check payable to Alton H.S.  The kids will need to bring money for a fast food lunch.   I will open up ticket to parents after I see how many kids want to go.

I have been talking to the kids about scheduling classes for next year.  The AHS Course Description Guide can be found on the Guidance page of the AHS web site:  https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Gs1yRGgfujgPGQ6IRKnbzUkZlMjRnExt/view     I strongly encourage your sophomores and juniors to consider taking the dual credit and/or AP (Advanced Placement) classes.  My daughter transferred 39 dual credit classes to Missouri State Univ., and most of those dual credit classes were FREE.   The Course Description Guide lists all of the dual credit and AP classes AHS offers.  Check it out!
