Band Update – 5/1/17

Hello!!!

Is anyone else wondering how it’s all ready May???

Here’s what we’ve got this week:

  • AHS Spring Band Concert – Thursday, May 4, 7pm, AHS Auditorium. Here’s the plan:
    • Concert Band – Wear all black (look nice! No jeans/tennis shoes) – Arrive at 6:15pm
    • Symphonic Band – Wear all black (look nice! No jeans/tennis shoes) – Arrive at 6:30pm
    • Wind Symphony – Wear dresses/tuxes – Arrive at 6:30pm
      *Please know this concert will be a little longer, as we celebrate the careers of Mr. Jarden and Mr. Banks. This is also our opportunity to say goodbye to our seniors. It will be a little bit of a longer concert, but it will be worth it!!!!!
  • Button Days – Friday, May 5 & Saturday, May 6 – various locations around Alton/Godfrey.
    We still need lots of student & parent help!! Student sign up sheets are on the band room door.

May at a Glance:

  • Wednesday, May 10 – 4th Quarter Playing Test/Scale Check Offs due – all students must turn these in! The information is all posted on Google Classroom – they can record and submit!
  • Friday, May 12 – Fine Arts Critiques Due – you can find the rubric here – Fine Arts Critique Rubric for All Bands
  • Thursday, May 18 – Band Final Exams (5th & 6th Hour)
  • Monday, May 22 – ABOB Dine Out – Elijah P’s! 5-9pm This is just like the event we had last year – Mr. Jarden, Mr. King and the rest of the Third Coast group will be playing. Come on out for a fun way to celebrate the end of the year!
  • Friday, May 26 – AHS Graduation. Because of how early we get out this year, we will need to have a rehearsal/dinner before Graduation – we won’t see the kids for over a week! Here’s the *tentative* plan:
    • All Wind Symphony & Symphonic Band students (except most Symphonic Band percussion) play graduation! Concert Band is exempt from playing – there just isn’t enough room for everyone.
      • 3:30pm – Meet outside for quick Memorial Day parade rehearsal with color guard – wear tennis shoes/comfortable clothes. EVERYONE is in on this rehearsal!!!! After we finish the outdoor rehearsal, concert band students may head home.
      • 4:30pm – run graduation tunes
      • 5:30pm – Eat dinner (provided by ABOB), change clothes – wear nice clothes for graduation – no jeans/tennis shoes!
      • 6:30pm – Enter gym/start playing graduation prelude music
      • 7:00pm – Graduation begins – Pomp & Circumstance
      • 7:30pm – Finish playing – quietly move chairs/stands/equipment back to band room.
        Dismiss.
  • Monday, May 29 – Alton Memorial Day Parade – Upper Alton – Memorial Day Parade Itinerary
  • Tuesday, May 30 – 1-2 Camp – 6-8pm, AHS – 1-2 Camp is for all first and second year members of the Marching 100. Student leaders will also need to attend!
  • Wednesday, May 31 – 1-2 Camp – 6-8pm, AHS.
