Band Update – 5/21/18

Hello!

Please check grades!!! We can take any missing assignments until 3:00pm today (Monday, 5/21). After that we have to be done. All information is posted on Google Classroom, and they can be done here at school or at home.
Just a reminder, if a student fails band, they must sit out one semester and then re-audition to get back in band. It doesn’t matter if they’re signed up for the Disney trip or not! They must pass band.

Here’s our week:

  • Monday, 5/21 – Drumline Rehearsal – 11:30am-1pm *note the time! – this rehearsal is for current high school percussionists to prep for the Memorial Day Parade.
    • 1-2 Camp – 6-8pm, AHS. This is for all first and second year Marching 100 members as well as student leaders!
    • ABOB Meeting – 7pm, AHS Band Room. All are welcome to attend!
  • Tuesday, 5/22- 1-2 Camp – 6-8pm, AHS
    • Color Guard Rehearsal – 3:45-6pm

  • Friday, 5/25 – Color Guard Rehearsal

  • Friday, 5/25 – AHS Graduation. (current high school students) – We will have a parade and graduation rehearsal on this Friday – All band members will rehearse for the Memorial Day parade and then Symphonic Band & Wind Symphony members will stay for graduation. Here’s the schedule:
    • 3:30pm – Meet outside for quick Memorial Day parade rehearsal with color guard – wear tennis shoes/comfortable clothes. EVERYONE is in on this rehearsal!!!! After we finish the outdoor rehearsal and load the trailer, concert band (5th hour) students may head home.
      *EVERYONE WILL NEED TO TAKE THEIR INSTRUMENTS HOME ON FRIDAY!!!*
    • 4:30pm – run graduation tunes/load the trailer
    • 5:30pm – Eat dinner (provided by ABOB), change clothes – wear nice clothes for graduation – no jeans/tennis shoes!
    • 6:30pm – Enter gym/start playing graduation prelude music
    • 7:00pm – Graduation begins – Pomp & Circumstance
    • 7:30pm – Finish playing – quietly move chairs/stands/equipment back to band room.
      Dismiss.

  • Monday, May 28 – Alton Memorial Day Parade – Memorial Day Parade Itinerary
  • Tuesday, June 5 – Full Marching 100 Rehearsal – 6-8:30pm, AHS.

Disney Trip Info:

As of 5/2, students should have $700 in their trip accounts. If you need special arrangements/need to make payments later, please be in touch with Music Travel – they’ll work with you, but need communication! Email Ben Hilmer – ben.hilmer@musictravel.com to make arrangements.

Here’s where we are with fundraisers:

  • Photography Sessions – we’ll be having photography sessions with three photographers on Saturday, June 2 at Gordon Moore Park – You can now sign up for session times and send folks the link: http://signup.com/go/CTvxDPP
    • Here’s how the photography sessions work:
      • You/your student recruit folks to sign up for a time using the link above.
      • They pay $10 at their session (give your child’s name). The $10 goes into your child’s trip account. Those attending the photo session get a 30 minute session and receive an 8×10 photo.
      • They will also have the opportunity to purchase a photo disc of the rest of their session directly from the photographer.
  • Alton Steel Fundraiser – Amberg Events has asked us to help set up inflatable games, tables, chairs and tents at an event Alton Steel is hosting. During the event we are being asked to “staff” each attraction to help ensure that kids are following safety rules. Following the event we will need to help break everything down and clean up the entire site. The event is Saturday, June 9 at Alton Steel (5 Cut St. Alton, IL). Set up is at 10am, the event runs from 11-2, and we help clean up after. The profit is $45 per person working! We need a mix of parents and kids – kids must be 15 or older.   • Brooms, Popsockets & Beefsticks – please turn in any unsold items and money ASAP. We need to wrap this up with the school year. I will be emailing folks who still have items out this week! Record clearance will be filed for those who haven’t turned anything in.

    Friday, July 27 – 7:15pm game  (Cubs Series)
    Saturday, July 28 – 6:15pm game  (Cubs Series)
    Sunday, July 29 – 1:15pm game  (Cubs Series)
