Band Update – 11/14/16


Here’s the plan for the week:

  • We’ve had a marching shoe mix up after the Halloween parade – please check your student’s marching band shoes at home. If they have initials other than your student’s on them,  please send them back to school! Thanks!
  • Today, Monday, November 14 – Nashville Fundraiser – Calendars are due. If you have not all ready done so, please send them in with your student! For more information, click here
  • Fall Orchestra Concert (Fine Arts Critique Opportunity) – Thursday, November 17, 7pm, AHS Auditorium

  • Its here! Its here!!! Cudney/Overmann Wedding – Saturday, November 19, 2pm.
    • This is a totally optional event – if your student can/wants to come, great! If not, no problem at all.
    • Permission slips are past due. At this point if your student is still interested in coming please shoot me & Mr. James an email giving your permission – and We will be finalizing plans today.
    • Here’s the plan for the day:
      11:00am – Arrive AHS, change into uniform, load instruments
      11:45am – Depart AHS
      1:00pm – Arrive at St. Peter’s, unload, setup
      1:40pm – Marching 100 plays prelude music
      2pm – Ceremony Begins
      3pm – Pictures with the 100 and Bridal Party
      3:30pm – Must leave church, head across the street to Mike Duffy’s Restaurant (124 W. Jefferson Ave. Kirkwood, MO 63122) for pizza!
      4:30pm – Leave Mike Duffy’s, return to AHS
      5:30pm – Arrive AHS, unload/put stuff away.
      *Please be ready to pick up your student at promptly at 5:30pm!*

Looking ahead:

  • Next week is all ready Parent/Teacher Conferences – Monday, 11/21 1-7pm and Tuesday, 11/22 8am-1pm. Please feel free to stop by! Mr. James and I will both be around and we can discuss anything – college, step up instrument options, Christmas gift ideas (mutes, reeds, valve oil, books, etc.), we can give mini-lessons with your student… the options are endless! This is a chance for you and your student to have our undivided attention – feel free to take advantage!
  • The November ABOB Meeting has been moved to 7pm on Monday, November 21 in the AHS Band Room.
  • Just to confirm, we will NOT be participating in the St. Louis Thanksgiving Day Parade this year. You can mark that off the calendar and enjoy the holiday. 🙂
  • Jazz on a Fall Evening (with LCCC Jazz Band) – Fine Arts Critique Opportunity/Concert –  Monday, November 28, 7:30pm in the Ahlemeyer Atrium(TR 141) – in the Trimpe ATC Building.
  • It is time to start thinking about Pep Band (Redbird Rhythm). All band students are involved in pep band – we divide the bands up into two groups, a Red Band and a Gray Band. The groups are posted in the band room. Here is the schedule:
    • Practices (Everyone): Tuesday, 11/29 – 3:25 – 4:15pm
      Tuesday, 12/6 – 6:15pm
    • Games: Red Band:
      • Tuesday, 12/6 – 6:45pm
      • Friday, 12/9 – 6:45pm
      • Friday, 2/3 – 6:45pm
      • Tuesday, 2/21 – 6:45pm
    • Games: Gray Band:
      • Tuesday, 12/6 – 6:45pm
      • Friday, 1/13 – 6:45pm
      • Friday, 2/10 – 6:45pm
      • Friday, 2/24 – 6:45pm
    • Pep Band is a graded activity (25 points for each game/rehearsal). Students who may need to miss a game can attend the other band’s game for extra credit – any extra game a student attends is worth 25 extra credit points.

Old Business:

  • I sent an email out to those who have not yet paid the $50 Band Fees for this year. If you paid them at registration, that was for last year (2015)’s fees, not for this year (2016). Please send it in when you can. If you need to work out a payment plan, please let me know. Checks are payable to ABOB, or you can pay it online by clicking here
