Band Update 10/26/15

Happy Monday! Here’s our week:

  • Today, Monday 10/26 – Bandquet RSVP’s DUE. The caterer needs a number today – Please at least get Ms. Davis a number of who is attending ASAP – you can send it in with a check or email her at mdavis@altonschools.org with your number. THANKS for the quick help!
    • Auditions begin today – Please encourage at home practice! Some of us are getting really nervous about auditions – the more prepared they are, the better it will go/the less nervous it will be. We try to make it as painless a process as possible, but nerves are a natural part of auditioning. If you have any questions, let us know! If your student does not have the scales, you can find them at the link here – AHS Band Audition Scales. Junior scales are correct. Please be sure to print out the correct instrument!
Students will play through the scale sheet and sight read for the audition. Auditions are blind.
    • ABOB Meeting – 7pm, Band Room
    • Cardinals Calendar order forms are going home today – these are the same calendars we sold for the Florida trip last year – they make great Christmas gifts! Click here for more information
  • Tuesday, October 27 – Butter Braid Pick Up 3-5pm  – Click here for more information.
  •  Wednesday, 10/28 – Dine Out for ABOB – Olga’s Edition – Please click this link, print out the flyer, and present it when you dine at Olga’s! The more folks we have participate, the more we make! Good for all business hours (and take out orders) on the 28!
  • Friday, 10/30 – Marching 100 Bandquet – Please RSVP as soon as you can. Please see this post for more information. I know there’s a lot going on that evening (Trick or Treating, etc) – no biggie if you can’t make it! Bandquet is really a chance for the band to celebrate and have fun together.

Pep Band will be starting soon! Pep (Basketball) Band is for all band students (5th and 6th hour). We divide the band in half, into red & gray pep bands. They are assigned to play at alternating basketball games. Games and reherasals are worth 25 points each, and students may play at their “off” game for extra credit.

Students do need a pep band tshirt as their uniform for each game. Shirts are $12 each. We will be using the same shirts as last year, so returning members do not need to buy a new one unless they need a different size/new one. Checks can be made payable to Alton High School – feel free to send them in with your student when you can. Shirt orders must be in by Tuesday, November 17. Thanks!

Here’s the Schedule:

*Since we only need 1 drum set player for pep band, percussionists are not usually involved. This year, instead of pep band/winter percussion we are breaking all percussionists into various percussion ensembles that will meet once a week and during class. We’re ironing out some final details and will email percussion parents with information when we have it!

That’s it!
