Band Camp Update – 7/29/19

Happy Band Camp! The only upside to today’s rain is that it brought a cold front for great temps!

A couple of reminders:

  • Tardiness – we have lots of folks arriving at rehearsal 10-15 minutes late! We start on time! We preach to the kids that to be early is to be on time, to be on time is to be late – they should arrive at school with plenty of time to prep and be ready to rehearse at the scheduled time. Thanks for your help with this!
  • Communication – the kids are really trying to communicate any absences or needs, but it helps us to know that we’re on the same page as their parents. Please send us an email if/when you know your child needs to miss anything.
  • Registration – please plan on registering your child either at lunch (12-1:30) or after camp (after 5). They always work well with our band kids, and running home to get cleaned up for pictures isn’t a big deal! Thanks for your help!

Here’s our week:

  • Monday, 7/29 – Friday, 8/2 –  Band Camp – 8am-5pm, AHS.
    • This week students will be released for lunch (12-1:30pm). They may go out to eat, go home, or may bring a lunch to eat at school.
    • Stuff to think about/plan ahead on for student needs:– Light colored clothing – tshirts and shorts are perfect! Jeans, hoodies, and black clothing is not!
      – Good tennis shoes and socks – cuts down on blisters
      – A hat
      – Sunscreen
      – Bug Spray (our field can be a little buggy)
      – Large water bottle
      – Three ring binder with sheet protectors (for music)
      – Pencil
      – Towel/Blanket to sit on during breaks
      – Pop Up tent/Camping chair – OPTIONAL – student is responsible for lugging it down to the field, assembly, and taking it home each day
      – Sunglasses
      – A Lunch Plan – Monday, 7/29 – Friday, 8/2 students will be on their own for lunch. They may bring a lunch or leave campus to get one. Everyone needs a plan!
      – A healthy breakfast – be sure to eat something each morning!!!

Looking ahead:

  • Monday, 8/5-Thursday, 8/8 – Band Camp – 8am-5pm, AHS.
    • This week, lunch will be provided:
      • Monday – Upper Alton Baptist Church
      • Tuesday – Mr. Ed Gray (Burgers & Dogs)
      • Wednesday – Mr. Vern VanHoy (catered by Rolling Hills Golf Course)
      • Thursday – ABOB (sub sandwiches)
    • We do need parent help to serve lunch each day (at noon). Please let us know if you’re available any day to help out. Thank you!
  • Due to Freshmen orientation and the ongoing construction at West, we will not be able to have a parent performance this year. Worry not! We’ll be able to debut the show at the Red & Gray Scrimmage on Friday, August 23.
  • Tuesday, August 13 – Full M100 rehearsal – 6-8:30pm, AHS
  • Wednesday, August 14 – Dine out for ABOB – Roma’s Pizza! Valid all hours that day. No flyer needed – just mention ABOB! Thanks!

Just a reminder – The Medical Information Form is way past due – please get those in! We usually have a notary at rehearsal! All forms are at the bottom of this update.

Marching 100 info:

  • We all ready have a change to the Fall Calendar – Homecoming has been moved, so the first two weeks in October have changed. We do not have a game on 10/4, and we will attend the Washington, MO Band Festival. The Homecoming Game will be on 10/11, and we will not attend the Bi-State Marching Invitational in Potosi, MO. Please toss October from the previous calendar – A new Calendar can be found here: UPDATED M100 2019 Calendar.
